1. Data Controller

For the personal data processing activities carried out through the Site, the data controller under the KVKK is Kurtuluş İşliyen – Daily Alanya.

Daily Alanya primarily publishes digital news and content concerning developments in Alanya, Antalya, and the surrounding areas.

2. Personal Data We May Process

The personal data processed may vary depending on whether you only visit the Site or communicate directly with Daily Alanya.

During Site visits. Because a connection is established with the Site’s servers, technical data may be processed, including your IP address, the date and time of access, the requested page or content, browser and device information, operating system information, referral and technical connection information, and security and error logs.

The Site also uses a visitor statistics service that measures page views in aggregated and anonymous form. This measurement does not create individual user profiles, does not track users across websites, and is not used for advertising purposes.

When you contact Daily Alanya. If you contact us by email, contact form, or similar means, we may process your name and surname, your email address, your telephone number (if provided), the content of your message, any documents and files submitted with it, and information concerning your request, complaint, or application.

When you submit a news tip or content. If you submit a news tip, information, photograph, video, document, or other material, we may process your contact details, the content of the tip or message, the photographs, videos, audio recordings, and documents submitted, and any event and location information included in the material. Submitted materials may also contain personal data concerning third parties.

Daily Alanya does not request special categories of personal data unless necessary for its activities. If such data is voluntarily submitted, it will be assessed according to the circumstances of the particular case under Article 6 of the KVKK and other applicable legislation.

3. How Personal Data Is Collected

Personal data may be collected electronically, wholly or partly by automated means: through server and security systems when the Site is visited; through cookies or similar technologies where used; through emails sent to Daily Alanya; through contact, advertising, news tip, or other forms made available on the Site; and through direct communication with Daily Alanya.

Information used for news and editorial activities may also be obtained from publicly available sources, statements by authorized institutions, news sources, news agencies, field journalism, or information and documents provided directly by the relevant persons.

4. Purposes and Legal Grounds for Processing

Operation and security of the Site. Technical connection and transaction security data may be processed to provide and operate the Site, identify and resolve technical problems, prevent cyberattacks and unauthorized access, maintain Site and server security, and detect misuse. Depending on the specific activity, such processing may rely on the legal grounds under Article 5(2) of the KVKK relating to compliance with a legal obligation, the establishment, exercise, or protection of a right, and/or the legitimate interests of the data controller, provided that the fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject are not adversely affected.

Communications and applications. Information sent to Daily Alanya by email or other communication channels may be processed to respond to requests, maintain communications, assess complaints or applications, and protect legal rights where necessary. Depending on the circumstances, such processing may rely on the establishment, exercise, or protection of a right, the necessity for the establishment or performance of a contract, or legitimate interests.

Advertising and commercial cooperation requests. Information provided in connection with advertising, sponsorship, or commercial cooperation may be processed to assess the request, prepare proposals, conduct contract negotiations, and establish and manage the commercial relationship. Such processing may rely on the grounds under Article 5(2) of the KVKK relating to the establishment or performance of a contract and, where applicable, legitimate interests.

News tips. Personal data submitted with a news tip may be processed to investigate the accuracy and newsworthiness of the tip, communicate with the source where necessary, prepare the news report, and carry out editorial assessment. When deciding whether and how such information should be published, Daily Alanya also considers freedom of expression and of the press, public interest, privacy, and personality rights.

Processing requiring explicit consent. Where a processing activity cannot rely on any other legal ground provided under the KVKK, the data subject’s explicit consent is obtained. The obligation to inform the data subject and the process of obtaining explicit consent are handled separately.

5. News Publishing and Editorial Activities

One of Daily Alanya’s main activities is the publication of news and current affairs content.

During the preparation, publication, updating, and archiving of news, content may include information concerning identifiable individuals, such as names and surnames, photographs and other images, duties or positions, professional or official titles, statements, and other information connected with the relevant event.

Article 28(1)(c) of the KVKK provides an exemption for the processing of personal data for artistic, historical, literary, or scientific purposes, or within the scope of freedom of expression, subject to the limitations established by law.

This exemption applies only where the processing does not violate the interests protected by the provision — including national defence, national security, public security, public order, economic security, privacy, or personality rights — and where the processing does not constitute a criminal offence. Accordingly, this exemption is not unlimited.

For news and editorial content, Daily Alanya assesses the circumstances of each case, including whether a public interest exists, the accuracy of the information, whether the information remains current, the relevance of the personal data to the news, the proportionality between the substance of the news and the manner in which it is presented, the protection of privacy, and the personality rights of the individuals concerned.

Content that merely satisfies public curiosity does not, by itself, establish a public interest. Personal data included in news content should be relevant and proportionate to the purpose of the publication.

6. News Tips and User-Submitted Content

Anyone who sends Daily Alanya news, photographs, videos, audio recordings, documents, or other materials acknowledges that the material has been submitted for news and editorial evaluation. Submission does not guarantee publication.

Daily Alanya may choose not to publish submitted content, use only certain parts of the material, conceal identifying information, anonymize individuals, blur photographs or video images, and make editorial changes for the protection of privacy.

Users should avoid submitting private or sensitive information concerning third parties unless such information is necessary for the news. Where a source requests that their identity remain confidential, the request will be considered during the editorial process, subject to applicable legal obligations and binding requests from competent authorities.

7. Requests for Correction, Updating, Anonymization, and Removal

Requests concerning the correction, response, updating, anonymization, or removal of content published by Daily Alanya are assessed according to the circumstances of each case.

The assessment may consider, in particular, whether the news remains current, whether the public interest continues, the archival value of the content, the accuracy of the information, its impact on personality rights, and freedom of expression and of the press.

The fact that a person appears in published content does not automatically require removal of the content. Likewise, the fact that content was newsworthy in the past does not necessarily mean that it may remain published indefinitely in the same form and scope.

8. Transfer of Personal Data

Personal data is transferred only to the extent necessary for the relevant processing purpose.

To technical service providers: where necessary for website hosting, server services, content delivery networks, visitor statistics, security services, backup services, and technical support.

To email and communication service providers: where necessary to enable electronic communications with users.

To professional advisers: where necessary for legal disputes or compliance with legal and financial obligations, personal data may be shared with lawyers, accountants and financial advisers, and other authorized professional advisers.

To authorized public authorities and judicial bodies: where there is a legal obligation or where a duly issued and legally valid request has been received.

Personal data is not sold for data trading purposes.

9. Transfer of Personal Data Abroad

The infrastructure of the hosting, content delivery, visitor statistics, and electronic communication services used by Daily Alanya may be located outside Türkiye. In such cases, the transfer of personal data abroad may arise.

International transfers of personal data are carried out only where one of the conditions set out in Article 9 of the KVKK and the By-Law on the Procedures and Principles for the Transfer of Personal Data Abroad is met. Where required, transfers may be based on an adequacy decision, appropriate safeguards, binding corporate rules approved by the Personal Data Protection Board, a standard contract published by the Board, a written undertaking providing appropriate safeguards and approved by the Board, or another transfer mechanism permitted under applicable legislation. Where an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguard is unavailable, personal data may be transferred abroad only where the conditions for an applicable statutory exception under Article 9 of the KVKK are satisfied.

The mere technical availability of a third-party service does not, by itself, constitute a lawful basis for transferring personal data abroad.

10. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site currently does not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes. The visitor statistics service used by the Site does not use cookies. The only preference stored in your browser is your selected light or dark appearance setting; this is not a cookie, is stored locally on your device, is not sent to Daily Alanya’s servers, and is deleted when you clear the relevant browser data.

If functional, performance/analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies are introduced in the future, the applicable legal basis will be assessed separately. Non-essential cookies for which no valid processing condition exists other than explicit consent will not be activated unless the user actively provides consent. Merely continuing to browse the Site will not be treated as consent for cookies that require explicit consent.

If non-essential cookies are introduced, the name of each cookie, its provider, its purpose, its retention period, and whether it is a first-party or third-party cookie will be separately disclosed on the Site, and users will be provided with a mechanism to change their preferences or to withdraw previously given consent.

11. Third-Party Content and Links

News articles and other parts of the Site may contain links to other websites, social media platforms, video services, or other third-party services.

If you follow a link to a website or platform outside Daily Alanya’s control, that third party’s own privacy and personal data processing rules apply. Daily Alanya is not responsible for the independent data processing activities of third-party websites or services outside its control.

12. Social Media

When you interact with Daily Alanya’s social media accounts, the relevant social media platform may process personal data about you for its own purposes. Such processing is governed by that platform’s own privacy policy and terms of use.

Where Daily Alanya separately processes messages or other information sent directly to it through social media, that processing is assessed under this Policy and applicable legislation.

13. Retention of Personal Data

Personal data is not retained indefinitely. It is retained taking into account the period required for the relevant processing purpose, the retention periods expressly required by applicable legislation, the duration of applicable legal obligations, and the limitation periods relating to potential legal disputes.

When the legal basis and purpose requiring the processing cease to exist, the data is deleted, destroyed, or anonymized in accordance with applicable legislation.

For news archives, Daily Alanya evaluates together the public interest, freedom of expression and of the press, archival value, current relevance, and personality rights.

14. Data Security

Daily Alanya takes technical and administrative measures appropriate to the nature of the personal data processed in order to prevent the unlawful processing, unauthorized access, loss, unauthorized alteration, and unlawful disclosure of personal data.

Access to personal data is restricted according to duties and operational necessity. Data security practices may be reviewed and updated in light of technological developments and emerging risks.

15. Your Rights Under the KVKK

Under Article 11 of the KVKK, data subjects have the right to: learn whether their personal data is being processed; request information where it has been processed; learn the purpose of processing and whether the data is used in accordance with that purpose; know the third parties in Türkiye or abroad to whom their personal data has been transferred; request correction of incomplete or inaccurate data; request deletion or destruction of personal data under the conditions provided by law; request that any correction, deletion, or destruction be notified to third parties to whom the data has been transferred; object to a result arising against them from analysis carried out exclusively through automated systems; and request compensation for damage suffered as a result of the unlawful processing of personal data.

Where an exemption under Article 28 of the KVKK applies, the relevant request is assessed in light of the applicable exemption and the circumstances of the particular case.

16. Applications Under the KVKK

Requests under Article 13 of the KVKK may be submitted to the data controller, Kurtuluş İşliyen, using the methods permitted under applicable legislation. Email for KVKK applications: alanyadaily@gmail.com

Where an official KVKK application is submitted by email, the data subject must use an email address previously provided to the data controller and registered in the data controller’s systems. Applications may also be submitted using other methods permitted under applicable legislation.

An application should include the applicant’s name and surname; a signature for written applications; for citizens of the Republic of Türkiye the Turkish Republic identity number, and for foreign nationals their nationality, passport number, or identity number if any; the residential or business address for notification; any email address, telephone, or fax number for notification; and the subject of the request.

If an application is made on behalf of another person by proxy, a document evidencing the authority may be requested. Applications are answered as soon as possible according to the nature of the request and within the statutory period provided under the KVKK.

17. Data Concerning Children

Daily Alanya is a news site aimed at the general public and does not offer any service specifically intended to collect personal data from children.

Where information concerning children must be assessed as part of a news report, particular consideration is given to the best interests of the child, the protection of the child’s private life, the public interest of the news, and whether the disclosure of identity or images is necessary.

18. Updates to This Policy

This Policy may be updated due to changes in legislation, changes to the Site’s technical infrastructure, changes in the services offered, or changes in personal data processing activities.

The current text is published at dailyalanya.com. The “Last Updated” date at the top of the text indicates when the Policy was most recently changed.
