Full editorial principles in TurkishAccuracy and verification
Names, dates, locations, figures and essential facts are checked before publication according to the nature of the story and available resources. Unverified information is described as an allegation, statement, preliminary finding or initial report. Reliable new information may lead to an update.
Sources and original reporting
Reporting may draw on our newsroom, field observations, direct statements, public authorities, news agencies and other sources considered reliable. Attribution, usage conditions and intellectual property rights are considered. Where possible, we add local context, verification or additional reporting. Source confidentiality is assessed where justified.
Authorship and headlines
Articles identify the author or newsroom as appropriate. A named journalist may be linked to a profile. Headlines, summaries, images and article text should agree; a headline must not imply a fact or answer the article does not support. Publisher details are available on our imprint page.
Publication dates and corrections
Articles display their original publication date and time. Substantial editorial updates may carry a separate update time and explanation. Dates are not changed merely to make old news appear new. Material errors are corrected according to their nature; minor spelling or formatting changes do not automatically constitute a new editorial update.
Right of reply and judicial reporting
Statutory correction and reply rights remain reserved. Allegations, investigation, detention, remand, prosecution, acquittal and conviction are distinct. Reports seek to reflect the reliable information available at publication and respect the presumption of innocence. Relevant replies and subsequent developments may be included.
Privacy and images
Public interest and reporting rights are balanced with personal rights and privacy, particularly for children, victims and vulnerable people. Unnecessary personal details should be avoided. Images must not misrepresent an event; archive, illustrative or artificially created visuals should not mislead readers about their nature. Third-party rights and usage conditions are considered.
AI and automation
AI may support research, editing, translation, classification, data and image processing. Editorial responsibility remains with the publication. Names, numbers, dates, locations and significant claims require checking. Misleading, repetitive or low-value content mass-produced only for search visibility is not part of our editorial approach.
Independence and advertising
Editorial decisions should reflect news value, accuracy and public interest. Commercial relationships should not remove editorial responsibility. Advertising, sponsored material and collaborations should be distinguishable from editorial news.
Follow-up, archives and removal requests
Important later developments may be added to the original report or covered in a linked follow-up. Archive reports may remain as records of their time, but archive status does not justify leaving known errors uncorrected. Correction, anonymisation, restriction and removal requests are assessed in context, considering accuracy, public interest, personal rights, archive value and applicable law; a request does not automatically result in removal. Applicable official decisions and retention duties are considered.
