At the ‘Horses of Lycia’ workshop held in front of Hadrian’s Gate as part of the Kaleiçi Old Town Festival, the body of the Lycian Horse sculpture being worked on by sculptor Cem Güney Çevikbaş was completed. Çevikbaş stated that the project planned for Antalya comprises a collection of 30 pieces and a monumental sculpture standing 10 metres tall.
The work, carried out at the festival organised by Muratpaşa Municipality for the 11th time this year, was conducted as part of the preparations for the larger-scale sculpture project. Çevikbaş explained that the head of the sculpture had been created at last year’s festival and that this year they had prepared the body.
According to information provided by Çevikbaş, the project was designed as a collection comprising a total of 30 sculptures rather than a single piece. The 10-metre-tall Lycian Horse, intended to become one of Antalya’s landmarks, is planned to be installed at the starting point of the Lycian Way.
Sculptor Çevikbaş expressed his hope that, with the support of the local councils and the Governor’s office, the project would be realised within a few years.
