The Cup returns to Alanya after seven years

First held in Alanya in 2019 and subsequently held in Italy, the championship will return to the city for its sixth edition. Turkey and Alanya will host the World Winners Cup for the next three years under a three-year agreement.

The official launch of the tournament in Alanya was attended by the District Governor of Alanya, Şakir Öner Öztürk; the Mayor of Alanya, Osman Tarık Özçelik; the Provincial Director of Youth and Sport for Antalya, Yavuz Gürhan; former Beach Soccer National Team player and head coach Adil Müftüoğlu, and former national team captain Ferit Yücel Ergün, a lawyer. The meeting covered the preparation process, the details of the organisation, and the contributions it will make to sports tourism.

Mayor of Alanya Osman Tarık Özçelik stated that the tournament, in which 48 teams from 33 countries will take part, demonstrates the city’s progress towards its goal of becoming a leading brand in sports tourism. Özçelik noted that the facilities were brought to life thanks to the contributions of Alanya’s local businesses, hotels and residents.

Adil Müftüoğlu also stated that, as part of a process that began in 2006, their aim had been to host a World Cup in Alanya, and noted that they were delighted that the event had been secured for the city under a three-year agreement.

Official mascot “Goal Alanya”

The tournament mascot, inspired by Alanya’s history and Yörük culture, has been named “Goal Alanya”. It was reported that the figure of the Alanya Goat represents strength, endurance, tenacity and determination.

The venue where the matches will be played has a stand capacity of 3,300. The matches will be broadcast live to viewers in over 110 countries via TRT and Beach Soccer Worldwide.

Alanya Municipality has stated that the accommodation, transport and shopping expenditure of the teams taking part in the tournament will make a direct contribution to the city’s economy and will help extend the tourist season.
