Heavy thunderstorms are expected in Alanya on Thursday, 1 October. According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, temperatures in the district are expected to remain between 21 and 25 degrees, with humidity levels ranging between 74 and 89 per cent and wind speeds of approximately 10 kilometres per hour.
The General Directorate of Meteorology recommends taking precautions against flash floods, flooding, lightning and disruption to transport during periods of heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Caution is advised on roads, underpasses, riverbeds and low-lying areas where water may accumulate should the rainfall intensify rapidly.
Rain warning for drivers
It is noted that visibility may be reduced and roads may become slippery during rainfall. Drivers are advised to increase their following distance, avoid sudden braking and manoeuvres, and approach areas where water has accumulated with caution.
Those in open areas during a thunderstorm should be aware of the risk of lightning. Open and elevated areas, the vicinity of solitary trees and the vicinity of metal structures are listed as high-risk areas. It is advised to seek shelter in enclosed and safe areas should the rain intensify.
Keep an eye on the latest forecasts
Due to the short distance between the coast and the Taurus Mountains in Alanya, and the rapid rise in elevation towards the interior, the intensity of the rainfall may vary across different parts of the district. Moist air from the Mediterranean and mountainous areas can also cause local variations in the duration and intensity of the rainfall.
Weather forecasts may be updated throughout the day depending on atmospheric conditions. It is therefore essential to monitor the General Directorate of Meteorology’s district forecasts, up-to-date radar images and short-term warnings.
