Nine main and two reserve artists have been selected to take part in the 21st International Alanya Stone Sculpture Symposium, to be held in Alanya from 1 to 30 November. Organised in collaboration between Alanya Municipality and Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, the event will take place at the symposium site behind Alaaddin Keykubat Park in the Dinek neighbourhood.
According to a statement from Alanya Municipality, 108 sculptors from 42 countries applied this year. The applications were assessed by a jury chaired by Dr Tolga Yurtözveri, a lecturer at the Department of Sculpture, Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts.
The jury comprised Associate Professor Yıldız Güner, Associate Professor Burcu Erden, Assistant Professor Dr Ahmet Aydın Atmaca, Assistant Professor Dr Ezgi Sandıkçı, Ayşe Yakar Anılgan, architect and Alanya Municipal Councillor; Nazmi Uyar, Head of External Relations at Alanya Municipality; Can Som, Board Member of the Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation (ALTAV); and Mustafa Oktay, Visual Arts Teacher at Alanya Fine Arts High School.

The sculptors, who will be working in Alanya for a month, will create works from raw stone blocks. The completed works at the end of the symposium will be added to the city’s open-air art collection.
