Şengül Kevkir, the mother of Taha Miraç, who suffers from DMD, has announced that she will begin a hunger strike at 3.00 pm on Wednesday 7 October in Alanya’s Hacet Square to draw attention to the fundraising campaign being run for her son’s treatment.
Noting that the campaign launched for Taha Miraç, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), had recently come to a standstill, Kevkir stated that only 46 per cent of the necessary treatment costs had been raised. Saying she wanted to make her son’s voice heard by the authorities, the mother explained that this was why she had decided to go on a hunger strike.
Şengül Kevkir described her anxiety, saying, “I am a mother… I am afraid of losing my child.” Noting that the campaign, which had been ongoing for months, had suddenly slowed down, Kevkir appealed for support, stating that her resources were running out.
Kevkir said, “We have put everything we have into this. We are exhausted. Both our strength and our resources are running out. Please do not leave me alone with my son in this helpless situation.”
Mother Şengül Kevkir also called on the people of Alanya to stand by her side for the protest she announced she would launch in Hacet Square.
