Tayfun Arlı, a 20-year-old ALKÜ student, lost his life following a collision between a motorbike and a van in the Mahmutlar neighbourhood of Alanya; the van driver, B.S., who fled the scene, was apprehended by gendarmerie officers. The accident took place on Atatürk Avenue at around 11.00 pm.

The motorbike, bearing the registration number 07 BRP 268 and ridden by Tayfun Arlı, collided with a van bearing the registration number 09 ACK 362, driven by B.S., an Azerbaijani national. Arlı, who was seriously injured in the collision, could not be saved despite the efforts of doctors at the hospital to which he was taken.

B.S., who fled the scene immediately after the accident, was apprehended shortly afterwards following a pursuit by the Gendarmerie. A criminal investigation has been launched against the suspect.

Arlı’s body was handed over to his family once the necessary formalities had been completed.

It emerged that Arlı, a third-year student on the Turkish Language Teaching programme at the Faculty of Education, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, worked as a courier in the evenings to cover his school expenses.

The Rectorate of ALKÜ also issued a message of condolence for Tayfun Arlı, wishing his family and friends strength during this difficult time.
